The Faculty of Architecture of Technische Universität Darmstadt is currently inviting applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) “Design and Urbanism”
starting winter term 2015/16.
We are looking for candidates with a PhD in architecture, urban studies, urban planning or a relevant related area, with a proven experience in professional practice, academic research and teaching, and with outstanding academic and professional achievements. The candidate’s relevant professional projects should demonstrate his/her excellent abilities in urban design. The successful candidate will teach principles, methods and concepts in urban design projects, give lectures and seminars, and to provide methodological education in both undergraduate and master’s degree programs in the Department of Architecture and in the interdisciplinary European Master of Science program Mundus Urbano, which specializes in International Cooperation in Urban Development. The academic research of the candidate covers global urbanization processes and their economic, social and cultural dimensions, which in turn are reflected in his/her practical planning and design background. The successful candidate must have experience in third-party fundraising, university administration and is expected to recruit and advise PhD students. The candidate’s willingness to adapt to the specific focus and teaching forms of a creative and technically oriented program is particularly welcome. S/he is expected to closely collaborate with the colleagues from the Faculty of Architecture, with the university’s interdisciplinary urban research center and with other departments of TU Darmstadt.
Fluency in English is essential for this position. In case the candidate is not fluent in German, he/she should be willing to acquire a working knowledge of German within a relatively short period of time. Fluency in other European languages is an additional advantage. The employment is to occur either in the form of a civil servant´s contract or in a non-tariffed contract with a qualification-based salary based on the German „W“ salary-scale. The final salary is to be negotiated between the applicant and the university president. The conditions for employment as described in paragraphs 61 and 62 of the Hessian University Law apply.
