Urban design and dynamic change
The Broadmeadows Transit City Masterplan, the driving force behind Proposition 3047, is already beginning to take shape. Council and major business are currently investing significant funds into the development of the area. Hume’s $14 million Hume Global Learning Centre was completed three years ago and has received national and international acclaim. A new $23 million, 6,000 square metre Hume City Council Office is presently under construction on the land next to the Global Learning Centre. The design of the Civic Plaza and major public space to the north of the Hume Global Learning Centre is about to commence. Gandel Retail Management has started construction of a $30 million entertainment and youth fashion precinct and the first multi-decked car park in the Broadmeadows Transit City precinct.”
The competition will now move into Stage 2, involving a final assessment of the shortlisted designs for commercial viability. The culmination of Proposition 3047 at a gala dinner in October, will include an exhibition and public forum and the presentation of a series of awards. These will include the Design Excellence Award, Sustainability Award and the People’s Choice Award.
