Climate change poses significant threats to the nation’s infrastructure, a research plan released today by the Australian Government shows. The National Climate Change Adaptation Research Plan: Settlements and Infrastructure says climate change is likely to result in increased damage to buildings, energy, telecommunications, transport and water infrastructure and services.
The Research Plan identifies research priorities in four main areas – urban planning and management, built environment, vulnerable coastal communities and infrastructure. In response to the plan, the Federal Government has announced $6.5 million for climate change research into the potential risk. This research is aimed at helping Australia’s towns and cities prepare for unavoidable climate change.
