At first glance, the Sydney strategy seems to better integrate transport issues and proposals, and overall implementation than its Melbourne equivalent. But will it be followed through, or revert back to the inefficient ‘thinking in silos’ approach which is still hindering the much admired Melbourne 2030 strategy?
The strategy says that the State will the lead, but in consultation with local government and their communities through sub-regional planning. Planning for Neighbourhoods, Town Centres and Villages will be undertaken at a local level, based on the principles of the Metropolitan Strategy, and in consultation with the community.
