The UR{BNE} Collective is a non-profit created by urban designers and community members passionate about Brisbane’s public spaces. The name stands for ‘U. R. Brisbane’, and is all about creating greater public involvement and understanding of how urban places are designed, building pride and interest in Brisbane’s places and generally livening up our city.
Since forming in 2012, the UR{BNE} Collective runs an annual community festival which has includes music, live art, street picnics, laneway fashion parades, urban design film festival, bike rides, walking tours and photo scavenger hunts.
In March 2014, the UR{BNE} Collective are planning to focus on Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane’s CBD. This often ‘unseen’ piece of waterfront is a strategic location for future redevelopment and offers unique opportunities to activate underneath an expressway and nearby heritage buildings.
Embracing the principles of ‘tactical urbanism’ and demonstrating urban ideas, we seeks to flip people’s perception of urban spaces from that of an uninspiring, one-dimensional offer to vibrant activated destinations. We believe the collaborative power of people creates innovative and engaged city stewards and affects lasting change in the urban fabric.
