Urban Design Forum in transition
Urban design in Australia is a work in progress. One of the aims of ‘Urban Voices’ is to stimulate dialogue about how the review of the past 25 years can provide a guide to creatively addressing contemporary challenges for urban design, in a government environment where urban design and cities seems to be given very much a back seat.
Twenty five years ago, ‘urban design’ had limited currency – Australia did not have even one course in the field! Given Rob Adams concluding comment in the book, that ‘cities are a game we cannot afford to get wrong’, it is time to take seriously the next steps in the transition of Urban Design Forum. There are already a number of ideas and proposals including TV programs, short videos, social media, annual ‘best of’ brochures, pop-up shops, and new networks – particularly with students and new graduates.
If you have any creative ideas or suggestions for the next evolution of Urban Design Forum while sitting on the beach, send them to [email protected]
In the short term, the hard copy of UDF quarterly will be produced only in small numbers to cover subscriptions and educational institutions, given that most people will now read it on www.udf.org.au
Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year!
