During his stay in Melbourne, Prof. Gemzøe met with the Transit Cities Team of DSE and local government representatives involved in the Transit Cities program and discussed site specific urban design, placemaking and pedestrianisation issues for Dandenong, Werribee, Broadmeadows and Frankston. Prof Gemzøe has co-authored a number of leading publications in urban design, and is a senior associate of international consulting firm GEHL Architects.
Lars also held a seminar on “Winning Back Public Space” in Melbourne. He spoke about the evolving use of public space in city centres and the importance of creating useable and amenable pedestrian precincts. He gave a number of international examples where cities are gradually reclaiming their public spaces for pedestrian activities, including Barcelona, Lyon, Strasbourg, Freiburg, Copenhagen and Melbourne.
